Transparency Borders
Uses: Adobe Photoshop 7
Difficulty: Moderate

I bet you are all wondering how I do my little transparent borders and such. Well, here's a tutorial on how to do it.

Step 1

Start off with an image that you are wanting to put the transparency border on.

Step 2

Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool. () Create a design on the top of the image.
Note: Only do the top for now, you will move on to the bottom in a second.

Step 3

Go to Edit > Cut (or press Ctrl + X)

Step 4

Select the Magic Wand Tool () Hold shift down and click on every piece that you just cut out.
Note: Make sure that you're holding shift each time you click on a space.

Step 5

Create a new layer. (Press Ctrl + Shift + N)

Step 6

Select the Paint Bucket Tool () Fill in each section on the new layer that you selected with a color that is not found anywhere on your image.

Step 7

Go to Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical

Step 8

Go to the View menu. Make sure that "Snap" is checked. If not, click on it to check it. Move the layer with the fill down to the bottom of the image until it snaps itself to the edge of the image.

Step 9

Select the layer with your image. Go to Edit > Cut or press Ctrl + X. Delete the layer with the fills.

Step 10

Go to Select > All or press Ctrl + A. Select the Move Tool () Move the image just a little bit, then move it back. You will notice that your selection will wrap itself around the image.

Step 11

Create a New Layer. Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool () Right click on the image and click on stroke. Use these settings:

Your image should now look something like this:

Step 12

Set the layer's blend mode to "Overlay" or "Soft Light".

Step 13

Right click on the layer witht he border. Go to Blending Options. Set a stroke and use the following settings:

Now your image should look something like this:

Step 14

Go to Layer > Merge Visible

Step 15

Go to Help > Export Trasparent Image. Follow the steps(at the first step, make sure "my image is on a transparent background" is selected) Choose "Online" in the second step. Make sure you leave it as a .gif, not a .png.

When you get to the Indexed Color box, instead of Web, select Local(Perceptual) and hit "ok" and save your image.

Now, find an uploader, upload it and you're done.

Here's mine:

Post what you get!

Feel free to ask questions if you have them.
